It
was a long long time ago…
Another
world away….
When
Noah took his boat afloat
And
Solomon saved the day.
The
days were long and rough and hard
The
39th was nigh…
And
old man Noah was getting tired
Of
water that was high…
Twas
time to send a dove to shore
For
him to look for land.
But
the bird was not to be found when sought…
He
did not come on command.
Noah
began to tear his beard…
His
wife began to scream…
He
lifted his arms to God above
And
said, “Wake me from this dream!”
It
was written a bird to shore would go
And
an olive branch would bring…
It
didn’t say ducks, or crows or storks…
Would
make the angels sing.
Twas
then that Soloman scurried up.
He
was a sewer rat.
His
eyes were beady, his tail was long
And
his little butt was fat.
“Father
Noah…let me look,” He said.
“I
will find the dove
That
bird was mating…
He’ll
keep you waiting…
He’s
blind and deaf with love.”
Noah
looked down at Solomon’s face
He
said, “Go quick my friend”.
I’m
tired of squawks, monkeys and hawks
I
want this cruise to end.”
Solomon
clawed the gopher wood
And
climbed up on a rafter.
He
scurried round and up and down.
He
knew who he was after.
At
last he found them…two doves a cooing
And
squeaked what Noah had said.
“Your
changing history…that’s what you’re doing.
Now
go! Get out of bed!”
The
dove flew out of his pigeonhole…
And
lit on Noah’s arm.
He
opened the hatch and flew away
From
the floating funny farm.
The
bird came back with an olive branch..
A
gift for his turtle dove…
Everyone
danced a Hebrew dance
And
gave thanks to God above.
He
waited a spell…said time will tell.
Then
sent the dove once more.
This
time he never came back to the ark.
So
the whole crew stepped ashore.
And
thus it was written…the word of truth
In
a time when animals sailed…
And
monkeys and lions and sheep and ghosts
And
a noble rat prevailed.
