| Abstract text: | We propose a system to bring about the controlled fragmentation of solitary protons or groups of nucleons where mass is converted into energy. The reactor system applies compression, heat, shock and vibration in the proper manner and sequence upon the first group of composite particle targets permitting their fragmentation and the emission of energy. It incorporates an innovative confinement system. Simulations indicate that the system is self-sustaining when a portion of energy from the first event is retained and applied to the second and subsequent events. The balance of the energy will be harnessed for other purposes. The proposed system replicates the events taking place in the core of every star. A paper on this subject is forthcoming. Fission converts mass into energy at the rate of 0.9 MeV/nucleon, fusion provides less than 3.40 MeV/nucleon, while proton fragmentation can provide 8.12 MeV/nucleon or more. Recent progress in high-energy and inertial confinement physics indicates that it is within our technical ability to construct such a system under laboratory conditions. The system will provide a predetermined quantity of energy as well as an array of rudimentary and elementary particles. Although the upper limits will be established through experiment, conservative limits for \'E\' are substantial as compared with common dt fusion results that as yet have not produced a net gain in energy. The production of such clean and free energy could be applied directly to the economic generation of electricity without the dangers of any radioactive or toxic by-products. |
