· Plan for investigation is clearly stated in the form of a question or a statement

· Includes important scientific principles necessary to the project or to the function of the invention
 

Research     10 points
· Background information on the topic is included on the display or in a journal


Hypothesis     5 points

· Include an educated guess/prediction about the outcome based on experience, observations, or research OR states the goal/purpose of the invention


Materials     5 points

· All items used for the project are listed in specific terms

Procedure     15 points

· Steps followed in testing the hypothesis or developing the invention are clearly listed so that another scientist could repeat the project

· Design includes multiple trials, appropriate sample size, and control of all variables other than the one(s) being tested.


Record Keeping     10 points

· Raw data in a log or journal showing that data (measurements, time, count, etc.) was collected in an organized manner


Analysis of Data/Results    15 points

· Graphic illustration of data/results (charts, graphs, diagrams, etc.)

· Clear written description of the findings from testing the hypothesis or effectiveness of the invention


Conclusion     15 points

· Clearly states whether hypothesis was supported was supported or the invention was effective

· Discusses what was learned based on the results, and attempts to explain "why" using scientific principles

· A discussion of how the project could be changed
